Who knew that a rainy November weekend could feel so ripe with spirit and promise?  Here are some hot tips on how to celebrate life:

Friday Night (Nov 7):

The D’Urbervilles, Woodhands w/ P.S. I Love You @ The Grad Club

Woodhands are dance-friendly. 9pm, $10 advance / $13 door

Saturday night (Nov 8):

Soft Abs & FULL COLOUR HYPE Reception @ Modern Fuel

Retrospective (2003-2008) of concert posters, art and other print work from local institution Ben Nelson.  Loosen your boundaries with the abstract paintings in the Soft Abs exhibit. 7pm-10pm; remarks at 8pm. Free.

Slippery Rabbits, False Face @ The Artel

Possibly lonesome music in a packed room; the much anticipated debut of new Kingston band False Face.  $5, door 8pm, bands start by 9pm — so afterwards you’ll have time to see BISON (Autonomous Social Centre, 75 Queen St.), who will explode the heart in your chest.

If you prefer old-style recklessness: Old Time Square Dance w/ Sheesham & Lotus @ St. James Parish Hall (Union & Barrie St) 8pm.

Monday, Nov 10:

John Porter, Super 8 Filmmaker @ The Artel

On Monday night at The Artel, the Toronto-based film genius John Porter will present a screening of his Super 8 film experiments.  Analogue awesomeness and visual surprises you won’t see anywhere else.  8pm. Free.
