Annual:

It’s the biggest week of the year for Community Radio and Queer Cinema.  From Jan 30 - Feb 8 we all delight in an overstuffed grab bag of events from the CFRC Funding Drive 2009 and reelout, Kingston’s annual gay, lesbian, and queer film and video festival.

reelout Opening Gala: Were the World Mine + Opening Gala Party - C’mon everybody, let’s put on a show!  Were the World Mine features high school musical daydreams, Shakespeare, jocks and glitter. (Friday Jan 30, 7pm @ Etherington Auditorium on Queen’s campus / $15 for film and party)

Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars Film Screening from CFRC - the live concert film of David Bowie’s supposedly last performance in 1973.  You get your choice of two screenings, with a secret special mini-party in between.  (Sunday Feb 1, 7pm and 10pm @ Dunning Auditorium, Queen’s Campus / $3 i think)

Apple Crisp Concert:

Also part of the CFRC fundraising drive - Apple Crisp Presents: Magic Jordan / The Gertrudes / False Face / Cities Turn to Sand.  Seriously, this is not to be missed.  (Tuesday Feb 3, 8pm @ The Grad Club / sliding scale of $7-12. Tickets available at Lower Carruthers Hall. 19+ event.)

Newness:

The House Is Black / Ben Nelson / Sedurtreg -  post-music, X and folk deconstruction in utopia.  Muffins for sale.  (Saturday, Jan 31, doors at 7pm @ AKA Autonomous Social Centre, 75 Queen St / sliding scale of $0-$10)

Does anybody else feel like the front page needs more gaping mouths? Is one gaping mouth really enough for the applecrisp front page?

Gaping mouths are down 50% this quarter. I’m hoping we’ll start to see a turnaround in April.
