AC’s Guide to the Homegrown Music Festival

Posted Friday, May 8th, 2009 by Stephen | Comment?

With five dozen acts playing tomorrow’s Homegrown Music Festival, we thought we’d tell you who we’re most stoked to see.

Agpak Mum (Bar None, 11:30)

You know how there’s been a dramatic increase in the amount you’ve been hearing Faith No More at the Sleepless Goat in the last year or so? Thank Dylan Carquez from Agpak Mum, who plays a drum kit with three snares.

Kingston Ceili Band (RCHA 193 Ontario Street, 9:00)

Annie Clifford said: “my mom’s band. She’d go to your shows.” She may already have.

Kyra and Tully (Kingston Brewing Company, 2:00pm)

Lenny just made these guys a video, look up there in the top left corner! They also just released a single, are about to release a new album, and have a truly tasteful website.

Pretty much all the bands at the Toucan (8:30-2:00)

Especially Mississippi Grover (Watson switching aliases mere days after a totally ripping Orange Alabaster Mushroom set at Bar None with Pride Tiger and an extremely drunk C’Mon), Pelt (dance rockers who are getting close to releasing a new album), and Slaves of Spanky (who I’ve only seen serenading small children at that elementary school show last spring. I presume more expletives will be involved this time). In A Cloud of Awesome and Blue Lake Stars intrigue as well. If you don’t feel like traipsing around town, the Toucan seems like a rad anchor. Plus it’s got that pee smell you can’t get enough of.
