ANAGRAM, METZ and FALSE FACE
Saturday January 23, 8PM
FIRST BAND AT 9PM FOR REAL
$5, All Ages
The Mansion’s Whine Cellar, 506 Princess.

Apple Crisp and YGK and CFRC present:

ANAGRAM (Toronto)

“It’s easy to see where Anagram is coming from – late 1970s New York “no wave” is alive and well in Toronto, don’t you know – and After Dark tosses all the expected pieces into place with near-religious fervour. Horns squawk, guitars crumble and the percussion works overtime. There’s a beat worth dancing to, but you’ll quite possibly end up hurting yourself without sufficient room.” Mark Hamilton, FFWD

METZ (Toronto)

“Nominally, they are bassist Chris Slorach, guitarist Alex Edkins and drummer Hayden Menzies. But what the Toronto trio really represent is the future… assuming that rock ’n’ roll’s 20-year nostalgia cycle still holds into the next decade. What with early-1980s/2000s post-punk revivalism now giving way to late-1980s/2000s proto-shoegazer fuzz-pop (c.f. Crystal Stilts, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart), Metz are better-positioned than most to capitalize on the imminent, post-2010 reclamation of early-’90s sludge-punk, as typified by labels like Touch and Go, Amphetamine Reptile and Sub Pop. In a Toronto indie-rock scene renowned for upbeat, clap-happy collectives, it’s a field Metz seemingly have all to themselves.” Stuart Berman, Eye Weekly

FALSE FACE

Same bros as usual.

(DD/MM/YYYY have cancelled. Sorry.)

That’s the basement’s punk name. We’re spelling it that way on purpose.
